{"id":172082,"date":"2025-12-07T09:34:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T09:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/172082\/"},"modified":"2025-12-07T09:34:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T09:34:06","slug":"plan-to-cut-nhs-funded-ivf-to-one-cycle-in-south-yorkshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/172082\/","title":{"rendered":"Plan to cut NHS-funded IVF to one cycle in South Yorkshire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a fertility treatment which led to the birth of more than 20,000 babies in 2023 &#8211; or roughly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c3en42pwdwyo\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one in every classroom<\/a> &#8211; according to data from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">South Yorkshire ICB took the decision to reduce the number of cycles available to new patients in the region at a meeting on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A report prepared for the meeting said the change would save about \u00a3400,000 a year, but there was a &#8220;potential risk of additional demand on other services such as mental health support&#8221; for couples affected by the decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Reacting to the change, Doncaster councillor Gemma Cobby said: &#8220;The devastation of couples, women, individuals, will be more significant and they won&#8217;t realise that for a couple of years. It&#8217;s just really heart-breaking.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Jane Cox, another councillor at the authority, said: &#8220;One round of IVF is shocking.
