\u2018The Fate Of Ophelia\u2019 has become Taylor Swift<\/a>\u2019s longest-running Number One single in the UK after topping the Official Singles Chart for a seventh week.<\/p>\n

The lead single from Swift\u2019s latest album \u2018The Life Of A Showgirl\u2019<\/a>, it was released on October 3, the same day as the album, and first got to Number One on October 16, knocking Olivia Dean<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Man I Need\u2019 off the top spot. It spent three weeks there before being replaced by \u2018Golden\u2019<\/a> from Netflix<\/a>\u2019s KPop Demon Hunters, as performed by fictional K-pop group Huntr\/x, which Swift then replaced again after two weeks.<\/p>\n

\u2018The Fate Of Ophelia\u2019 also registered the largest first-week sales of 2025 and of Swift\u2019s career, with 132,000 units sold.<\/p>\n

Previously, \u2018Anti-Hero\u2019, from Swift\u2019s 2022 album \u2018Midnights\u2019<\/a>, had been her longest-running Number One, spending six consecutive weeks at the top. At the time, she also became the first woman since Miley Cyrus<\/a> in 2013 to top the albums and singles charts simultaneously, while the track also spent 15 non-consecutive weeks in the top 10.<\/p>\n

Altogether, the singer has topped the UK chart with five different tracks. Her first was \u2018Look What You Made Me Do\u2019 in 2017, which spent two weeks at Number One, followed by \u2018Anti-Hero\u2019 in 2022 and then \u2018Is It Over Now? (Taylor\u2019s Version)\u2019 in 2023 and \u2018Fortnight\u2019 the following year, both of which spent a week there, and then \u2018The Fate Of Ophelia\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018The Life Of A Showgirl\u2019, meanwhile, became Swift\u2019s 14th Number One album in the UK, spending four non-consecutive weeks at the top spot. She has the most Number One albums for an international artist, and only The Beatles<\/a> and Robbie Williams<\/a> \u2013\u00a0both with 15 \u2013 have more overall. She\u2019s in joint-second place with The Rolling Stones<\/a>.<\/p>\n

NME gave \u2018The Life Of A Showgirl\u2019 three stars<\/a>, writing: \u201cTo seek escapism is not a sin, but the best pop music makes the personal feel like life or death. \u2018Speak Now\u2019, \u2018Reputation\u2019<\/a>,\u00a0 \u2018Folklore\u2019<\/a>: her greatest works could be genuinely transformative. For the first time, \u2018The Life Of A Showgirl\u2019 sees Swift not catalysed into artistic growth by love, but merely comfortably secured by it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Official Charts<\/a> has listed Swift as one of the artists likely in contention for the coveted Christmas Number One this year, with three of her songs \u2013\u00a0\u2019The Fate Of Ophelia\u2019, \u2018Opalite\u2019 and \u2018Olivia Taylor\u2019 all currently charting.<\/p>\n

Also expected to be in the running are Olivia Dean with \u2018The Christmas Song\u2019, Labrinth<\/a> with \u2018Where Love Lives\u2019, which soundtracks this year\u2019s John Lewis Christmas ad<\/a>, McFly\u2019s Tom Fletcher with \u2018One Of Us\u2019 from Paddington: The Musical<\/a>, and Raye<\/a> with \u2018Where Is My Husband!\u2019 which currently sits at Number Two and has spent 11 weeks in the chart so far.<\/p>\n

Festive classics from Wham!<\/a> and Mariah Carey<\/a> could also be in contention, with \u2018Last Christmas\u2019 and \u2018All I Want For Christmas Is You\u2019 currently charting at Number Three and Four respectively. The former has been Christmas Number One for the past two years<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Swift has recently shared the official trailer for her new concert film, The Eras Tour: The Final Show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The movie captures the star\u2019s last \u2018Eras Tour\u2019<\/a> stop at the BC Place stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, last December.
