\n\tKathryn Newton<\/a> had trouble keeping her composure when she learned she would be sharing the screen<\/a> with Sarah Michelle Gellar<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tNewton took part in an onstage conversation at CCXP in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil<\/a>, on Sunday, where she discussed her projects past and present, which included the forthcoming Ready or Not<\/a> 2: Here I Come. The actress joins Samara Weaving<\/a> as the leads in the second installment of Searchlight Pictures\u2019 horror-comedy franchise, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin<\/a> and Tyler Gillett<\/a>\u2018s new feature hitting theaters April 10, 2026<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just wanted to say thank you for looking at the trailer because it was the No. 1 trailer for Searchlight of all time,\u201d Newton told the crowd. \u201cIt means a lot to all of us who made the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe also recalled her stunned reaction upon learning during a rehearsal that Gellar, whom she admired while growing up, would co-star with her in the film. \u201cWe shot the movie in Toronto, and I was doing rehearsal with Samara and Matt and Tyler, the directors,\u201d Newton said. \u201cI saw Sarah Michelle Gellar\u2019s photo on the wall and I was like, \u2018She\u2019s in the movie?\u2019 They were like, \u2018Yeah, we just got her yesterday.\u2019 And I literally fell on the floor because Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a huge inspiration of mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNewton also expressed her appreciation that Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett wrote Ready or Not 2 with her in mind after they directed the actress in last year\u2019s vampire flick Abigail. \u201cThey called me after Abigail came out, and they were like, \u2018We told you we were going to work with you again. We wrote Ready or Not 2, and you\u2019re the girl.\u2019 I was screaming and crying and rolling on the floor because they wrote it for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tReady or Not 2 sees Weaving reprise her role as Grace MacCaullay, as she tries to survive a game in which wealthy families compete to kill her. Newton, who plays Grace\u2019s estranged younger sister, Faith, is grateful for the connection she shared with her co-star.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHonestly, she\u2019s the coolest girl in the world,\u201d Newton said of Weaving. \u201cShe\u2019s way cooler than me. She\u2019s so beautiful. She\u2019s so down-to-earth that you don\u2019t even understand. She likes video games.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn fact, Weaving \u2014 who is married to Cocaine Bear writer Jimmy Warden<\/a> \u2014 even helped Newton with finding possible romance. \u201cShe helps with boys,\u201d Newton revealed. \u201cShe actually texted for me one time. She flirted with a boy for me, and it went really well.
