{"id":178277,"date":"2025-12-10T19:34:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/178277\/"},"modified":"2025-12-10T19:34:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:34:07","slug":"meta-might-charge-for-a-future-ai-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/178277\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta might charge for a future AI model"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Meta\u2019s next AI model could mark a change in its \u201copen source\u201d AI strategy that Mark Zuckerberg had called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2024\/07\/open-source-ai-is-the-path-forward\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the path forward<\/a>.\u201d Currently, the company is working on a new AI model, code-named Avocado, that it might charge for access to, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-12-10\/inside-meta-s-pivot-from-open-source-to-money-making-ai-model\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Last year, Meta launched its open source (depending on who you ask, since the Open Source Initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/opensource.org\/blog\/metas-llama-license-is-still-not-open-source\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disagrees<\/a>) Llama 4 AI model, but it had a disappointing release, with Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/meta\/645012\/meta-llama-4-maverick-benchmarks-gaming\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">caught gaming AI benchmarks<\/a> and being forced to delay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/675558\/meta-splits-its-ai-team-to-speed-up-rollouts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a planned \u201cBehemoth\u201d<\/a> version. But Zuckerberg scrapped that \u201cin pursuit of something new,\u201d Bloomberg says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">In a July 30th memo about \u201cpersonal superintelligence,\u201d Zuckerberg indicated that Meta may need to shift its approach on open source: to mitigate potential safety risks, the company will have to be \u201ccareful about what we choose to open source,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meta.com\/superintelligence\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">As part of the changes, Zuckerberg now \u201cspends much of his time and energy working closely with those new hires, in a group called TBD Lab,\u201d Bloomberg says.
