Last month, on the day before Thanksgiving, wildlife rescuer Karenlynn Stracher was waiting for a pie at a bakery near her home on Long Island, New York, when she received an urgent message about an animal in danger. Stracher quickly purchased her dessert and raced to the scene.<\/p>\n

A woman living on the water had been on her dock when she noticed a fluffy figure nestled in a crevice on the bulkhead. The Good Samaritan quickly realized the visitor was a rabbit. She felt panic rise in her heart \u2014 the tide was coming in, and if the bunny stayed there, he would surely drown.<\/p>\n

Luckily, Stracher was only two minutes away. Upon arrival, she followed the woman out to the dock with a net and carrier in hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw the rabbit in person, my heart sank a little bit,\u201d Stracher told The Dodo. \u201cIt was lower down than I thought, which meant my net would have to be extended very far, and the further it extends, the less precise control I have.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Stracher was up for the challenge. She held her breath as she carefully lowered the net toward the rabbit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew I only had one chance to make this catch,\u201d Stracher said. \u201cThe rabbit\u2019s life depended on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a flash, Stracher expertly maneuvered the net around the rabbit, scooped him up and brought him back up to dry land.<\/p>\n

The rescuer examined the rabbit for injuries and was pleased to find him in good shape. He was ready to return home to the wild.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching him run away was the most exhilarating feeling!\u201d Stracher said. \u201cThis is a situation where I clearly made a difference in this creature\u2019s life, and, to me, that\u2019s what wildlife rescue is all about.\u201d<\/p>\n
