One Denver-based bartender says \u201cabsolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n Over the caption \u201cI can\u2019t help it, the tea is too good,\u201d Gabriella Masseran (@gabriellamasseran) is spilling tea of her own\u2014namely, when customers settle up with Apple Pay.<\/p>\n Over 55,000 people have watched her TikTok.<\/p>\n In the beginning of her video, she notes, \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people paying with Apple Pay recently, and that\u2019s totally fine.\u201d<\/p>\n As she pantomimes carefully holding an iPhone and swivels from the customers at the bar<\/a> to the register behind it, she gleefully says, \u201cBut just to let you know, I have to take your phone behind the bar to put it on the credit card device thingy, so I see everything on your phone.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEverything,\u201d she emphasizes.<\/p>\n That\u2019s right. She sees your wallpapers, clocks your screen savers, reads your text previews, and perhaps most tellingly, she\u2019s noticing how you name your contacts.<\/p>\n Why Is That Really Your Wallpaper?<\/p>\n Masseran says she\u2019s seen some absolutely bonkers things. \u201cI know I shouldn\u2019t be looking, but y\u2019all have some wack-a\u2013 backgrounds,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n And she admits that she\u2019s \u201ctotally judging you.\u201d<\/p>\n Discussing the wallpapers she\u2019s seen, there\u2019s a point where she pauses as if she\u2019s sorting through a library of images she can\u2019t unsee. \u201cI\u2019ve seen some crazy things. \u2026 I\u2019ve seen a naked girl on it,\u201d she says before wondering what would compel a person to put these images in a semi-public \u201cplace.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Why is that your wallpaper?’\u201d she questioned.<\/p>\n Text Messages<\/p>\n But that\u2019s not all. Those late-night, \u201cyou up?\u201d texts? Yes, she sees those, too.<\/p>\n \u201cYes, I read your texts. My eyes are drawn to your phone. I can\u2019t help myself,\u201d she says, quasi-defending her inability to look away.<\/p>\n Once Masseran says she saw a guy get a text from two different individuals. He\u2019d called them, \u201cNo. 1 Main H\u2013 and No. 2 H\u2013,\u201d she alleges.<\/p>\n \u201cI have so many questions,\u201d she says, before issuing a warning.<\/p>\n \u201cGirls, be wary out here in Denver,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n How?<\/p>\n Viewers are hung up on the logistics\u2014whether or not Masseran\u2019s workplace should have a mobile card reader, how much a bartender can see on a card screen, and what their wallpaper says about them.<\/p>\n \u201cDo you work at a 3rd world dive bar? You don\u2019t have a detachable reader?\u201d one questioned.<\/p>\n In the comments, Masseran clarified how she sees those screens. \u201cAfter the transaction goes through, it goes straight to the wallpaper,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n But independent confirmation comes from a presumed service industry worker, Aemeax (@aemeax). They wrote, \u201cHahahaha, I accidentally read texts all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n Expectation Of Privacy?<\/p>\n So what\u2019s the proper smartphone etiquette? According to the site It\u2019s a Southern Thing<\/a>, \u201cIf a text comes in while you\u2019re holding their phone, don\u2019t read it.
