Ed Sheeran<\/a> covered The Pogues<\/a>\u2018 \u2018Fairytale Of New York\u2019 while performing at Dublin\u2019s 3Arena earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Sheeran closed the final show of his \u2018Loop\u2019 tour on Tuesday (December 9) with the festive cover, telling the crowd: \u201cYou will sing every single word as loud as you can Dublin. Thanks for having me and have a great Christmas.\u201d He was also joined on stage by the artists Beoga, Biird \u2013 both of whom are Irish \u2013 and Nizlopi.<\/p>\n

Prior to the Dublin show, Sheeran had performed shows in Paris, Munich, Coventry and Manchester in support of his new album\u00a0\u2018Play\u2019.\u00a0<\/a>It offered fans the chance to watch the artist in smaller venues than usual, with Sheeran previously playing multiple nights at Wembley Stadium<\/a>\u00a0as part of his massive \u2018+\u2212=\u00f7\u00d7\u00a0Tour\u2019 (aka \u2018Mathematics Tour\u2019).<\/p>\n

Last time he was in Ireland, Sheeran\u00a0made a surprise appearance at a music and arts festival<\/a> in Wexford town back in August, performing Irish folk songs and original tracks at The Sky And The Ground Pub.<\/p>\n

He revealed earlier this year that though he was born in England, he culturally identifies as Irish<\/a> and his dad is from Belfast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI class my culture as Irish. I think that\u2019s what I grew up with,\u201d he said (via\u00a0BBC). \u201cWe\u2019d spend all of our holidays in Ireland. My first musical experiences were in Ireland, I grew up with trad music in the house. So I identify culturally as Irish, but I was obviously born and raised in Britain.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t overthink it but I do feel like my culture is something that I\u2019m really proud of and grew up with and want to express,\u201d he added. \u201cI feel like just because I was born in Britain doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that I have to just be [British]\u2026 I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any rules to it. It should be how you feel and how you were raised and what you lean into.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other news, Paris-based production company\u00a0La Blogoth\u00e8que has accused Netflix of ripping off their many iconic one-take gigs<\/a> in its new Ed Sheeran special, One Shot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe heard about\u00a0One Shot, the new program Netflix launched with Ed Sheeran,\u201d read the first frame of their Instagram carousel.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, we are flattered by the tribute paid to the thousands of \u2018one shots\u2019 we produced during the last 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

La Blogoth\u00e8que then instructed its followers to \u201csee for yourself\u201d by attaching numerous side-by-side images, comparing certain frames in\u00a0One Shot\u00a0to stills from previous films the firm had released.<\/p>\n

These include a shot of Sheeran performing onstage, looking out to the venue (compared to\u00a0Phoenix<\/a>\u2018s 2017 show), a frame of the singer playing the guitar in the back of a taxi (compared to a\u00a0Sylvan Esso<\/a>\u00a0performance in 2014), and a still of the star walking across a bridge (compared to\u00a0Johnny Flynn<\/a>\u00a0in 2008).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ed Sheeran covered The Pogues\u2018 \u2018Fairytale Of New York\u2019 while performing at Dublin\u2019s 3Arena earlier this week.
