Fallout<\/a> co\u2013showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet has confirmed that the series\u2019 New Vegas\u2013set second season won\u2019t declare any single Fallout: New Vegas<\/a> ending as canon. Speaking in a recent interview<\/a>, she explained that the team worked closely with Bethesda\u2019s Todd Howard and executive producer Jonathan Nolan to ensure the show doesn\u2019t override players\u2019 individual choices from the 2010 RPG. She said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe discussions Todd, Jonathan, and the whole creative team had was that we wanted to avoid making one particular ending correct from any of the games.\u201d<\/p>\n

The decision continues Prime Video\u2019s stance that the series is canon within the Fallout universe, while still respecting the games\u2019 branching narratives.<\/p>\n

New Vegas, New Rules for ‘Fallout’ Season 2<\/p>\n

Season 2 will take the story to New Vegas<\/a> but will not cement which ending players reach as the Courier. In Obsidian\u2019s classic RPG, fans could side with the New California Republic or Caesar\u2019s Legion in the bid for Hoover Dam, support Mr. House<\/a> and his long-term plans for the Mojave, or wipe the slate clean under the independent Yes Man route. Each ending dramatically reshapes the region, but Robertson-Dworet says the show wants to leave those possibilities intact. \u201cWe wanted, wherever possible, to basically say that any player’s experiences and the choices they made might have happened leading up to the show,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, there might be moments that contradict that, but that was our intention, because we didn\u2019t want to contradict anyone\u2019s experiences playing the games.\u201d<\/p>\n

To avoid choosing a definitive outcome, Season 2 is set about 15 years after the events of Fallout: New Vegas. That gap lets the writers acknowledge the game\u2019s story while presenting a version of New Vegas changed by time<\/a>, conflict, and shifting faction power. \u201cVegas is not exactly as you remember it, because naturally, in the wasteland, there\u2019s constantly shifts,\u201d Robertson-Dworet explained. \u201cSome things fans will recognize as very much the same, but other things have changed<\/a>.\u201d She added that any deviations from the game should feel intentional. \u201cI hope when they say we have changed things from how it was in the game, they understand there\u2019s an implied story there we hope they think is delicious and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
