SpaceX is laying the blame on the satellite operator for not sharing location data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cWhen satellite operators do not share ephemeris for their satellites, dangerously close approaches can occur in space,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/michaelnicollsx\/status\/1999630601046097947?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrote Michael Nicolls<\/a>, VP of Starlink Engineering. \u201cA few days ago, 9 satellites were deployed from a launch from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwestern China. As far as we know, no coordination or deconfliction with existing satellites operating in space was performed, resulting in a 200 meter close approach between one of the deployed satellites and STARLINK-6079 (56120) at 560 km altitude.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Starlink satellites have the ability to automatically adjust course to avoid objects in their path. However, those objects have to be known for the avoidance system to work. In the first six months of 2025, Starlink spacecraft performed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/starlink-manoeuvre-update-july-2025-hugh-lewis-utkhe\/?trackingId=RS9rT9th%2F%2BePE1UKtDt6iA%3D%3D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">over 144,000 such maneuvers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup ewrhy38 _1xwtict1\">\u201cOur team is currently in contact for more details. All CAS Space launches select their launch windows using the ground-based space awareness system to avoid collisions with known satellites\/debris. This is a mandatory procedure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The commercial space launch company, based in Guangzhou, China, then seemed to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cas_space\/status\/1999747246771032181?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">distance itself from blame<\/a>, by saying the incident \u201coccurred nearly 48 hours after payload separation, by which time the launch mission had long concluded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Over 24,000 objects, including satellites and debris, are currently being tracked in low Earth orbit, an increase of 76 percent since 2019, according to the publication <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/satellites\/is-low-earth-orbit-getting-too-crowded-new-study-rings-an-alarm-bell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Space<\/a>.
