The news comes on the heels of reports that his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/spacex\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a> startup was likely to go public at a valuation of $800bn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Musk, who was the first to surpass $500bn in net worth in October, owns an estimated 42% stake in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/spacex\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a>, which is preparing to go public next year. No other person has hit the $500bn mark.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The SpaceX valuation would strengthen Musk\u2019s wealth by $168bn to an estimated $677bn as of 12pm ET on Monday, according to Forbes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Musk\u2019s wealth also got a boost from his roughly 12% stake in EV maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/tesla\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tesla<\/a>, shares of which have risen 13% so far this year, despite flagging sales.
