Dec. 15 (UPI) — A wildlife center in Costa Rica announced it is holding a contest allowing members of the public to name its four newly-arrived capybaras.<\/p>\n
The Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center said social media users will be called upon to suggest names for the capybaras, three females and one male, on the rescue’s Facebook<\/a> and Instagram<\/a> pages starting Dec. 22.\n<\/p>\n The first round of voting will take place via likes on the comments, and the top 10 will then be subject to a run-off round involving donations to the organization.<\/p>\n “Donations received will be used to care for the capybaras and the other animals at our sanctuary,” Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center officials said.<\/p>\n The capybaras, which are not native to Costa Rica, were seized by authorities in May, when they were found being illegally transported in the country.\n<\/p>\n “They’re social, intelligent, and noble animals. Every day, we learn more about them,” Rescate veterinarian Isabel Hagenauer said. “Behind every rescue is a story of trafficking and suffering. This is why we say strongly: No to wildlife trafficking.”<\/p>\n \t\t\t
