A photographer in Bryon Bay, Australia, was blown away when she spotted\u00a0sharks<\/a>\u00a0unintentionally making stunning art as they swam through dense bait balls.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ocean photographer\u00a0Lise de Boer<\/a>\u00a0shared the footage on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>, describing the morning as \u201cone of the best ones [she\u2019s] had in a really long time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her aerial footage captures “hundreds of sharks creating the most beautiful art in bait balls. It was absolutely mesmerising to watch,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

When fish feel under threat, they can pack themselves together in tight groups, called bait balls, for safety in numbers and to try to confuse predators. But these large groups can also attract predators \u2013 such as sharks, dolphins and whales \u2013 who try to maximise the opportunity for a quick snack.\u00a0<\/p>\n

De Boer watched as the sharks swam into the tight throng of fish, creating sharp lines where they swam as the fish fled for their lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She says she saw reef sharks, bronze whalers and\u00a0bull sharks<\/a>\u00a0all cruising along, trying to get a taste of the fishy feast. She also thinks she saw a\u00a0great white shark<\/a>\u00a0in the mix.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the comments, de Boer\u2019s followers celebrate the hypnotic sight as the presence of lots of sharks signals a healthy ocean ecosystem.\u00a0<\/p>\n
