Amazon<\/a> has formed a new organization that will bring together its artificial intelligence (AI) models, silicon development and quantum computing.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s artificial general intelligence (AGI<\/a>) team will be included in the organization, as will the Nova<\/a> AI models and the Graviton<\/a>, Trainium<\/a> and Nitro<\/a> products, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy<\/a> said in a Wednesday (Dec. 17) message<\/a> shared with employees and posted online.<\/p>\n

The new organization will be led by Peter DeSantis<\/a>, who has been with Amazon for 27 years, most recently leading all the company\u2019s AWS Utility Computing<\/a> services, according to the message.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith our Nova 2 models just launched at re:Invent<\/a>, our custom silicon growing rapidly, and the advantages of optimizing across models, chips, and cloud software and infrastructure, we wanted to free Peter up to focus his energy, invention cycles, and leadership on these new areas,\u201d Jassy said in the message. \u201cPeter will report directly to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of this organizational change, Pieter Abbeel<\/a>, an AI researcher who works with Amazon\u2019s robotics<\/a> team, will now lead the company\u2019s frontier model research team, which builds the base model, in AGI, while continuing to work in robotics, according to the message.<\/p>\n

In addition, Rohit Prasad<\/a>, who led the creation of Nova and the AGI organization over the past two years, has decided to leave Amazon at the end of the year, per the message.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe path ahead is full of opportunity,\u201d Jassy said in the message. \u201cWith the foundation that\u2019s been built, the traction we\u2019re seeing, and Peter\u2019s leadership bringing unified focus to these technologies, we\u2019re well-positioned to lead and deliver meaningful capabilities for our customers. I\u2019m excited about what this team will build and how these foundational technologies will help shape Amazon\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n
