Text at the bottom reads, &quot;But with AI actors it's different.\" width=\"800\" height=\"420\" class=\"size-large wp-image-831604\"  \/>This AI character appeared in the now-pulled McDonald\u2019s ad and has been reappropriated in a clever video to show how the company has no control over it. | All Trades <\/p>\n<p>A follow-up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/petapixel.com\/2025\/12\/09\/filmmakers-behind-hideous-ai-generated-mcdonalds-ad-insist-ai-didnt-make-it-we-made-it\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">infamous AI-generated McDonald\u2019s Christmas ad<\/a> poignantly shows how corporations have no control over their creation when using the technology. <\/p>\n<p>The original AI ad for McDonald\u2019s Netherlands was pulled after widespread backlash and mockery when the filmmakers behind it insisted they \u201chardly slept\u201d when making the ad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMcDonald\u2019s Netherlands has decided to remove our AI-generated Christmas advert,\u201d the company said in a statement. \u201cIt was intended to reflect the stressful moments that can occur during the holidays in the Netherlands, but we recognize that for many of our guests, the season is \u2018the most wonderful time of the year.\u2019 We respect that and remain committed to creating experiences that offer Good Times and Good Food for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, some people had the foresight to keep a copy of McDonald\u2019s AI ad, see below, but worse still for the fast food chain, people have started iterating on it by borrowing some of the characters from the ad. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/annabel-burba\/mcdonalds-just-pulled-its-holiday-ad-after-immediate-internet-outrage-heres-what-went-so-wrong\/91279232\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"follow external noopener nofollow\">Inc. reports<\/a> that creative agency All Trades Co. featured one of the \u2018actors\u2019 that appeared in the McDonald\u2019s ad in a video that highlights the pitfalls of using AI. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommercials used to use real actors,\u201d the AI woman says. \u201cAnd those real actors used to be under contract buyouts. That meant they couldn\u2019t turn around and support a competitor,\u201d she says while dipping her hand into a Burger King bag.<\/p>\n<p>The video makes a sharp point: when a corporation uses AI to create an advertisement, it effectively relinquishes control over how those characters may appear in future media, largely because such works are difficult to register with copyright authorities.<\/p>\n<p>While it is <a href=\"https:\/\/petapixel.com\/2025\/01\/30\/us-copyright-office-softens-its-stance-toward-registering-ai-generated-artworks\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not impossible<\/a>, the U.S. Copyright Office has taken a dim view of works that are entirely AI-generated. It is not like Ronald McDonald, which is heavily protected. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt almost seems like we should value human labor, craft, and creativity,\u201d the character says. \u201cBut what do I know? I\u2019m just AI. I\u2019ll say and do anything.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>At the end of the video, a message from All Trades appears: \u201cWe work with humans.
