{"id":192043,"date":"2025-12-18T22:57:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T22:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/192043\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T22:57:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T22:57:07","slug":"labubu-movie-to-be-directed-by-paul-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/192043\/","title":{"rendered":"Labubu Movie to be Directed by Paul King"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/paul-king\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paul-king_1\" data-tag=\"paul-king\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul King<\/a> is going from cuddly jam-eating bears to cute-ugly monsters. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA month after nabbing the film rights to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/labubu\/\" id=\"auto-tag_labubu_1\" data-tag=\"labubu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Labubu<\/a>, Sony has tapped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/paddington\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paddington_1\" data-tag=\"paddington\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paddington<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/wonka\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wonka_1\" data-tag=\"wonka\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wonka<\/a> filmmaker King to bring to life a big-screen take on one of the world\u2019s biggest collectible sensations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKing is set to direct the feature project and will produce\u00a0with Department M\u00a0(The Christophers, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle remake) and Wenxin She (Wish Dragon, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood). The project is in early development and is still in need of a writer. Sony is working with Chinese retailer and brand owner Pop Mart on the adaptation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSony had no comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDesigned by Hong Kong-born, European-based artist Kasing Lung and initially made by How2 Work as part of a line of monster figurines, Labubu took off when Chinese retailer Pop Mart took over making and selling them in 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt took a few years, but Labubus exploded in popularity recently for two main reasons. One, Pop Mart\u2019s use of selling them via \u201cblind boxes,\u201d meaning buyers never know what they are acquiring until they open the package, which then also spurs demand. This also creates a superheated secondary market, where collectors pay exorbitant amounts to get the dolls they want online, at pop up sales and in traditional brick and mortar locations. Limited editions artwork and auctions have seen items hit six figure\u00a0prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe second factor was the adoption of the toys by certain celebrities, particularly K-pop group Blackpink member Lisa, who in 2024, used them as\u00a0accessories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLabubu is the name of the lead monster doll of the line, which counts leader Zimomo, companion Mokoko, and boyfriend Tycoco as characters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKing earned a following, not to mention a few BAFTA Award nominations, for directing and co-writing the first two Paddington movies, which earned devotion and acclaim for their whimsy and heart. He also co-wrote the screenplay and is executive produced the third film in the series, Paddington in Peru.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe last directed Wonka for Warners Bros.
