The son of murdered Beatle John Lennon says his mother has stepped away from the public eye. <\/p>\n

Sean Ono Lennon, 50, told viewers of CBS Sunday Morning that the artist Yoko Ono is now living in upstate New York. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s slowed down a lot, and she\u2019s retired,\u201d Lennon said, according to The Daily Beast<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Lennon said he sees her for about half of the year. <\/p>\n

For decades, Ono lived in The Dakota, a historic apartment building on New York\u2019s Central Park West, in the home she shared with John Lennon.<\/p>\n

Lennon and Ono were married in 1969 and the two made headlines with their performance art and opposition to the Vietnam War. <\/p>\n

Lennon was murdered by a disturbed fan on Dec. 8, 1980 outside The Dakota while returning from a late-night recording session. <\/p>\n

Sean, who was five when his father died, said his mother \u201cdeserves to kind of sit back.\u201d <\/p>\n

He is now acting as caretaker for his father\u2019s recording legacy, as well as Ono\u2019s artistic work. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just doing my best to help make sure that the younger generation doesn\u2019t forget about The Beatles and John and Yoko,\u201d Lennon said. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe believed she could change the world, and she did…now she is able to be quiet\u2014listen to the wind and watch the sky,” her daughter, Kyoko Ono Cox, 62, said in a recent biography of Ono written by David Sheff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The son of murdered Beatle John Lennon says his mother has stepped away from the public eye.
