At a time of intense trauma for the Jewish community in Australia, a small section of the crowd at Sunday\u2019s vigil booed the Prime Minister over the government\u2019s mani\u00adfestly inad\u00adequate responses to the orches\u00adtrated surge in antisemitism over the previous two years. The cri\u00adti\u00adcisms of the gov\u00adern\u00adment are legit\u00adim\u00adate; the booing was not the right way to express them, and should not have happened.<\/p>\n
Yet in the midst of our community\u2019s grief and anguish, we are appalled that a national figure like Wayne Swan chose to re-tweet another person\u2019s post which seized on the booing episode to try to diminish and del\u00ade\u00adgit\u00adim\u00adise the out\u00adpour\u00ading of sympathy our community has received from the Aus\u00adtrali\u00adan public. <\/p>\n
The tweet, and the implied endorse\u00adment of it, was a subtle form of dehu\u00adman\u00adisa\u00adtion which exem\u00adpli\u00adfies the sewer of antisemitic hatred that has blighted Aus\u00adtrali\u00adan society for the last two years and which helped spawn the murder of 15 innocent people at Bondi Beach.<\/p>\n
Swan\u2019s sub\u00adsequent jus\u00adti\u00adfic\u00ada\u00adtion for the re-tweet and his claim that it was in support of national healing and unity, is risible.<\/p>\n
