MORGANTOWN, W.Va. \u2013 West Virginia concluded nonconference play with an 86-51 victory over Mississippi Valley State Monday night at Hope Coliseum.<\/p>\n
Senior Treysen Eaglestaff<\/a> led five double-figure scorers with a season-high-tying 23 points. The Bismarck, North Dakota, resident got his game-high total on 9-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-10 from 3-point distance.\u00a0<\/p>\n He also contributed eight rebounds and three assists.<\/p>\n Senior guard Honor Huff<\/a> contributed 13 points – four of his field goals coming from behind the arc – while senior center Harlan Obioha<\/a> scored 12 and added 10 rebounds.<\/p>\n Freshmen DJ Thomas<\/a> (11) and Amir Jenkins<\/a> (10) also added to the double-figure scoring column coming off the bench.<\/p>\n WVU (9-4) tallied the game’s first seven points and never trailed.<\/p>\n “I thought from about the 15-minute mark to the 10-minute mark of the first half we settled in, moved the ball and got some shots to go in,” West Virginia coach Ross Hodge<\/a> said. “We played fairly clean game for the most part with only five turnovers and got some solid contributions from the two freshmen in the first half.<\/p>\n “That’s really what gave us the separation was Amir and DJ in the first half and we got to see what those guys are made of,” Hodge added.<\/p>\n The Mountaineers scored on 63.8% of their possessions (37 of 58) while limiting the Delta Devils to just 24 scores on their 57 possessions.<\/p>\n It was the eighth time this season WVU limited its opponents to 60 points or less.<\/p>\n West Virginia was 12 of 27 from 3-point distance and 30 of 56 overall for 53.1%.<\/p>\n Michael James was the only Mississippi Valley State player to reach double figures with 14 points.<\/p>\n
