{"id":199232,"date":"2025-12-23T04:57:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T04:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/199232\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T04:57:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T04:57:13","slug":"23-18-lady-vols-drain-18-threes-dash-past-southern-indiana-89-44","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/199232\/","title":{"rendered":"#23\/18 Lady Vols Drain 18 Threes, Dash Past Southern Indiana, 89-44"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KNOXVILLE, Tenn. \u2013 No. 23\/18 Tennessee closed out the pre-conference portion of its schedule and headed to the holiday break by lighting up The Summitt with18 three-pointers in an 89-44 victory over Southern Indiana on Monday night at Food City Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Vols (8-3) were paced by three players in double figures, including senior guard <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/nya-robertson\/22214\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22214\" target=\"_blank\">Nya Robertson<\/a> with 20 and freshman guard <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> with 19, with those players swishing six and five treys each, respectively, as UT notched the No. 2 total of deep balls in school history and tied for third all-time in the SEC. Junior forward <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/alyssa-latham\/22213\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22213\" target=\"_blank\">Alyssa Latham<\/a> was in double figures for the second time in three games, tossing in 10 points via 7-of-8 accuracy at the free-throw line.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Screaming Eagles (8-3), whose 29 turnovers led to 36 UT points, were led by Ali Saunders with 14 points and Chloe Gannon with 11.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nSouthern Indiana struck first on a Sophia Loden three-pointer, but the Big Orange quickly worked to wrestle back the lead on a pair of Latham charity tosses, a three from Robertson and two more free shots from Latham to make it 7-3 with 8:18 to go. UT suffered through a drought of nearly four minutes, and the Screaming Eagles tallied the next two buckets to even the score at 7-7 by the 4:31 media break. Tennessee responded out of the timeout with an 11-0 run, getting back-to-back threes from <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/janiah-barker\/22210\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22210\" target=\"_blank\">Janiah Barker<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/zee-spearman\/22215\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22215\" target=\"_blank\">Zee Spearman<\/a>, a pair of Barker free throws and a trey from <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> to build an 18-7 lead and end the first frame up 18-8.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nAfter shooting only 21 percent in the opening period, the Lady Vols found their range early in the second, getting consecutive treys from <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kaniya-boyd\/22211\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22211\" target=\"_blank\">Kaniya Boyd<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> to extend their lead to 24-8 and force a USI timeout with 7:45 remaining. The Screaming Eagles regrouped during the stoppage, trimming the gap to eight twice, including 31-23 with 3:30 left, but a fourth trey from Pauldo, a <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/deniya-prawl\/22223\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22223\" target=\"_blank\">Deniya Prawl<\/a> layup and a Latham free throw sent the Big Orange into the intermission with a 37-23 cushion.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nRobertson came out sizzling in the third period, nailing four treys, including three in a row,\u00a0to help Tennessee build a 53-25 lead with an 11-0 run that forced a Southern Indiana timeout with 6:06 remaining. After the Screaming Eagles whittled the UT lead to 21, 53-32, with 3:47 left in the quarter, the Lady Vols closed out the stanza with 10-3 burst, fueled by a <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> layup, a Latham free throw, Latham three-ball and a trey from <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mya-pauldo\/22220\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22220\" target=\"_blank\">Mya Pauldo<\/a> to end the frame with a 63-35 advantage.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe fourth quarter was all Tennessee, as the Lady Vols shot a game-best 55.6 percent from the field (10-18) and knocked down four of nine three-point attempts. A trey by Robertson, two from <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/talaysia-cooper\/22212\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22212\" target=\"_blank\">Talaysia Cooper<\/a> and another from <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> came in succession as part of a 14-0 run that put the game away midway through the period.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nNEXT UP: THE SEC OPENER<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Lady Vols will enjoy a few days off during the winter break before returning to prepare for conference play. Tennessee will play host to Florida in the SEC opener at 2 p.m. ET on Thurs., Jan. 1, at Food City Center. The contest will be broadcast on SECN+ and carried on Lady Vol Radio Network stations with audio streaming on UTSports.com.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nJINGLE BELLS, THREE-BALLS FELL<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nUT hit the second-most three-pointers in program history and tied for the third-most in SEC history with 18 vs. USI. That replaced the previous UT season best and No. 2 total of 16 vs. Coppin State on Nov. 23rd. <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/nya-robertson\/22214\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22214\" target=\"_blank\">Nya Robertson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> put a large dent in the total, with Robertson hitting six and <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> making five. Pauldo&#8217;s five eclipsed her career high of four threes set against Winthrop on Dec. 14, while Robertson&#8217;s six was her second-best career effort behind the 10 she hit vs. Coppin State. The 48 three-point attempts by UT were also the second best in Tennessee and SEC history.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nNYA WAS ON THE NICE LIST<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/nya-robertson\/22214\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22214\" target=\"_blank\">Nya Robertson&#8217;s<\/a> game-high 20 points allowed her to pace UT for the third time in 2025-26. Robertson now has two games this season scoring 20 or more points and 33 such games during her career. The SMU transfer led the Lady Vols in threes made in a game for the fourth time this year as well, knocking down six in 14 attempts. She leads UT with 27 treys on the year.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nFORCING TURNOVERS A PLENTY<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Lady Vols forced their fourth foe in a row into 20+ turnovers, hurrying Southern Indiana into 29 on Monday night. Tennessee has forced nine of its last 10 opponents into 20+ miscues. Monday night&#8217;s total was the third most of the young season, following 36 by Coppin State and 30 by Stanford.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nTHE DECEMBER OF MIA<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/mia-pauldo\/22221\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22221\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Pauldo<\/a> has found her groove in the month of December, with four games in a row scoring in double figures and six total on the season.\u00a0Pauldo broke her career high in points three times in four games with 14 vs. Stanford, 18 against Winthrop and 19 versus Southern Indiana. She has averaged 15.2 ppg. over her last four contests.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nBLOCK PARTY FOR ZEE<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/zee-spearman\/22215\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22215\" target=\"_blank\">Zee Spearman<\/a> had a career-high six blocks against the Screaming Eagles. That total led the Lady Vols, making it six times in eleven games that Spearman has paced her team in swats. The forward now has 19 on the season and is averaging 1.7 per contest.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nBENCH BRIGADE<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nBench production was plentiful on Monday night, with the Lady Vols outscoring USI by a 47-7 count in bench points. The margin of 40 was the largest differential in bench points this season by Tennessee.
