{"id":199393,"date":"2025-12-23T07:21:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T07:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/199393\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T07:21:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T07:21:14","slug":"despite-furious-rally-bluejays-wbb-falls-to-seton-hall-88-79","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/199393\/","title":{"rendered":"Despite Furious Rally, Bluejays WBB Falls to Seton Hall 88-79"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Omaha, Neb. &#8212; Down 56-36 at halftime, Creighton Women&#8217;s Basketball closed within five points in the closing minute before dropping an 88-79 decision to Seton Hall on Monday, December 22.<\/p>\n<p>The loss evened Creighton&#8217;s record at 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in BIG EAST action, while Seton Hall climbed to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in conference contests.<\/p>\n<p>Things started off well for the Bluejays as Creighton opened the game with seven straight points on a trey from <a href=\"https:\/\/gocreighton.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/allison-heathcock\/8636\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8636\" target=\"_blank\">Allison Heathcock<\/a> as well as buckets from <a href=\"https:\/\/gocreighton.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/elizabeth-gentry\/8635\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8635\" target=\"_blank\">Elizabeth Gentry<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gocreighton.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/ava-zediker\/8721\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8721\" target=\"_blank\">Ava Zediker<\/a>. Seton Hall, however, took control with a 20-0 run over the next four minutes. Mariana Valenzuela led the charge with 12 of her 23 points. The Pirates closed the quarter shooting better than 70% from the field (12-of-17) to take a 30-20 edge after 10 minutes<\/p>\n<p>The Pirates continued to sizzle in the second stanza, pushing their lead to as much as 20 at 45-25 (5:03) and again at 50-30 (3:30). Bluejay freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/gocreighton.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/neleigh-gessert\/8722\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8722\" target=\"_blank\">Neleigh Gessert<\/a>\u00a0started to heat up, hitting consecutive shots from long range to help Creighton close within 14 at 50-36 (2:34), but Seton Hall scored the final six of the half.<\/p>\n<p>A back-and-forth third quarter saw Creighton pull within 12 at 69-57 (1:21), but Seton Hall responded by pushing back out to a 20-point edge at 80-60 with 5:23 left in the contest. Down 84-66 with just over three minutes left, Creighton rattled off 13 straight points to close the game to 84-79 (0:42). Ultimately, however, there wasn&#8217;t quite enough time to complete the comeback.<\/p>\n<p>Zediker\u00a0led Creighton with 25 points, while <a href=\"https:\/\/gocreighton.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kennedy-townsend\/8638\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8638\" target=\"_blank\">Kennedy Townsend<\/a> had 14 and <a href=\"https:\/\/gocreighton.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/neleigh-gessert\/8722\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8722\" target=\"_blank\">Neleigh Gessert<\/a> delivered 11 points.
