{"id":200207,"date":"2025-12-23T18:33:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T18:33:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/200207\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T18:33:04","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T18:33:04","slug":"breathtaking-james-webb-telescope-image-reveals-what-happens-when-two-galaxies-collide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/200207\/","title":{"rendered":"Breathtaking James Webb Telescope image reveals what happens when two galaxies collide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n         Published on<br \/>\n            23\/12\/2025 &#8211; 15:32 GMT+1\n            <\/p>\n<p>A breathtaking new space image has captured two spiral galaxies in the middle of a slow-motion cosmic collision, glowing in shades of blue, red, and silver.<\/p>\n<p>The picture shows galaxies NGC 2207 and IC 2163 as they drift towards each other, locked in a gravitational dance. <\/p>\n<p>To create it, scientists layered infrared light captured by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/next\/2025\/10\/23\/james-webb-space-telescope-detects-seeds-of-life-in-icy-star-beyond-our-galaxy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Webb Space Telescope<\/a> (JWST), the largest and most powerful telescope ever launched to space, with X-ray observations from NASA&#8217;s Chandra X-ray Observatory to create one image. <\/p>\n<p>Seen face-on from Earth, the larger galaxy, NGC 2207, dominates the scene while the smaller IC 2163 overlaps its outer edge. As they pull on one another, their spiral arms are twisted and stretched, with streams of stars and gas drawn out into space. <\/p>\n<p>In some regions, gas and dust are squeezed together &#8211; conditions that can spark the birth of new stars &#8211; creating what scientists describe as an intricate &#8220;web of chaos&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In the image, JWST\u2019s mid-infrared data appear in shades of white, grey, and red, tracing cooler dust and material across the galaxies\u2019 cores and spiral arms.
