{"id":202520,"date":"2025-12-25T01:42:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-25T01:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/202520\/"},"modified":"2025-12-25T01:42:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-25T01:42:07","slug":"vince-gilligan-on-pluribus-season-1-finale-ultimate-mic-drop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/202520\/","title":{"rendered":"Vince Gilligan on &#8216;Pluribus&#8217; season 1 finale: &#8216;Ultimate mic drop&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Warning: This article contains spoilers for Pluribus episode 9, &#8220;La Chica o El Mundo.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Pluribus, <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/person\/vince-gilligan\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vince Gilligan<\/a>\u2019s sci-fi series that sees almost all humans on Earth overtaken by an extraterrestrial hive mind, leaves a lot of unanswered questions in season 1.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> But one question the Breaking Bad creator didn\u2019t want to leave viewers with was, \u201cWhat\u2019s in the box?\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> In the last few minutes of the season 1 finale, Carol (Rhea Seehorn) arrives back home at her cul-de-sac in Albuquerque via helicopter, along with a giant shipping container that is placed in front of her house.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_9-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Manousos (Carlos Manuel Vesga), who has been researching ways to disrupt the hive mind, comes outside and asks her, \u201cWhat is this?\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_11-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cAtom bomb,\u201d she replies while walking away.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_13-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Gilligan tells Entertainment Weekly that he never thought about ending the episode without Carol answering that question.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cI think it\u2019s an ultimate mic drop,\u201d he says. \u201cWhat\u2019s in the box? &#8216;Atom bomb.&#8217; I thought that was awesome.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_18-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Executive producer Gordon Smith, who co-wrote the finale with fellow EP Alison Tatlock, agreed that the last line was necessary for the &#8220;big ending.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p> Karolina Wydra as Zosia and Rhea Seehorn as Carol in season 1, episode 9 of &#8216;Pluribus&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Apple TV<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_21-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;We\u2019re going out with saying, here\u2019s a declaration that Carol, who has gone through a difficult journey through the first season, of trying to figure out her relationship to the Others, trying to figure out her own grief and all of these things, for her to say, even wearily, &#8216;we save the world, I\u2019m in, I\u2019m on this quest,&#8217; the atom bomb sort of certifies for whatever use she has in mind for it,\u201d says Smith, who also directed the episode. &#8220;It\u2019s kind of a physicalization of, no, no, she\u2019s in, this is her quest. Wherever it will take her, we don\u2019t know.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_23-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Carol first mentions the possibility of acquiring an atom bomb at the end of episode 3, when she asks the Others if they would give her one. When they ask why she would want one, she says, \u201cTo blow shit up? For kicks. I mean, does it matter?\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_27-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The arrival of an atom bomb on her doorstep in episode 9 reveals that they actually decided to give her one following Carol&#8217;s decision to end her romantic interlude with Zosia (Karolina Wydra).\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_29-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> As Seehorn <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/pluribus-rhea-seehorn-breaks-down-big-decision-season-1-finale-11871837\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told EW in a separate interview<\/a>, she doesn\u2019t think Carol knows what she plans to do with the atom bomb.
