And I\u2019ve been guilty of doing the same.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"4bb10bd4-1fec-43b0-b489-076c9551df13-2\">In my experience, this has led to injuries and simply feeling too exhausted to continue working out.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople think they\u2019ve got to do everything all at once,\u201d says <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fitandwell.com\/tag\/peloton\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.fitandwell.com\/tag\/peloton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peloton<\/a> instructor Hannah Frankson, who confirms this is a mistake she\u2019s seen many beginners make.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think people get overwhelmed with the expectation of what they need to achieve,\u201d adds Ben Alldis, another Peloton instructor and trainer.<\/p>\n<p>I asked the two instructors how people can navigate this issue, and they had three tips to share.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-start-smaller-than-you-think-you-need-to\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Start smaller than you think you need to<\/p>\n<p id=\"21883b76-35d5-44ad-b6e5-c6155810dad8\">When you start exercising, you might be surprised at what you can do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Start your week with achievable workout ideas, health tips and wellbeing advice in your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you can lift a heavy weight, run 5K off the bat, or power through a tough Zumba class.<\/p>\n<p>But while you might have the muscular strength and endurance to do these things once, repeating them several times a week\u2014when you haven\u2019t been exercising previously\u2014can stress your previously underworked joints and tank your energy levels.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s much smarter to start small and build up strength and consistent habits.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStart with a 10-minute workout and you can build that confidence, build that momentum,\u201d says Alldis.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve built a consistent habit of regular, shorter workouts, you can gradually increase the duration and intensity.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-accept-that-your-motivation-will-drop\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Accept that your motivation will drop<\/p>\n<p id=\"12a60ace-101c-4bb6-9cfb-e82fb5651873\">At some point, you will just not want to exercise.<\/p>\n<p>This happens to everyone\u2014including fitness instructors\u2014but it\u2019s especially common if you\u2019ve made the common mistake of taking up a workout program that is too hard for you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople think I\u2019m just not motivated, I\u2019m different from everyone else, I\u2019m not disciplined; and that\u2019s not true at all,\u201d says Frankson.<\/p>\n<p>If your workout program is proving too demanding, there\u2019s no reason not to scale it back.
