Or, in other words, someone whose primary job is to think about all the ways AI could go horribly, horribly wrong. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/2004939524216910323?s=46&amp;t=fRkDIqgNCkTkvg8ZBiLA9A\" rel=\"nofollow\">post on X<\/a>, Sam Altman announced the position by acknowledging that the rapid improvement of AI models poses \u201csome real challenges.\u201d The post goes on to specifically call out the potential impact on people\u2019s mental health and the dangers of AI-powered cybersecurity weapons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/careers\/head-of-preparedness-san-francisco\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">job listing<\/a> says the person in the role would be responsible for:<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup ewrhy38 _1xwtict1\">\u201cTracking and preparing for frontier capabilities that create new risks of severe harm. You will be the directly responsible leader for building and coordinating capability evaluations, threat models, and mitigations that form a coherent, rigorous, and operationally scalable safety pipeline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Altman also says that, looking forward, this person would be responsible for executing the company\u2019s \u201cpreparedness framework,\u201d securing AI models for the release of \u201cbiological capabilities,\u201d and even setting guardrails for self-improving systems.
