\n\tWhile Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a> is now famously known as the Scream Queen, she recently revealed that her mom actually stopped her from making her horror<\/a> film debut as a child.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show<\/a>, the Oscar winner recalled a producer wanting her to audition for 1973\u2019s The Exorcist. However, she said her mother, Janet Leigh, declined the opportunity for her then preteen daughter.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe called my mom and said, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m producing the movie of the book The Exorcist.\u2019 Will you let Jamie audition for it?’\u201d Curtis recounted. \u201cAnd at the time I was probably 12 and, like, cute and kind of sassy and I had some personality, and I\u2019m sure he saw me at a party and was like, \u2018Oh, she\u2019d be funny.\u2019 And my mother said, \u2018No.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLooking back, the Freakier Friday star<\/a> is thankful her mom protected her from child stardom and potentially any trauma that could have come from starring in a scary movie at such a young age.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy mom really wanted me to have, thank God, a childhood, which I understand you didn\u2019t get. You didn\u2019t get that option. People didn\u2019t step in and say, \u2018No, she will have a childhood. She will have protection,’\u201d Curtis added, referring to Barrymore making her onscreen acting debut at 7 years old in 1982\u2019s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Linda Blair was ultimately cast as the possessed child, Regan, in The Exorcist, Curtis later made her horror debut at 19 years old as Laurie Strode in 1978\u2019s Halloween<\/a>.
