Stranger Things<\/a> has just one more episode left in the tank, which means, for the particularly fearful fans among us, one more chance for the show to make some big sacrifices in its final season<\/a> to stop Vecna once and for all. The show has definitely been teasing the potential for some big tragedies to occur, but fear not, aforementioned fearful fans: you won\u2019t necessarily spend your New Year\u2019s Eve in horror as Hawkins\u2019 finest<\/a> get wiped out.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not Game of Thrones. We\u2019re not in Westeros. I love Game of Thrones, but it\u2019s just a very different type of show than that,\u201d Matt Duffer recently flatly told The Hollywood Reporter about the fatal stakes coming into the final episode of the show. \u201cThere\u2019s not going to be a Red Wedding situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, the showrunners want the show\u2019s end to focus on a feeling of satisfaction, rather than necessarily shock value. \u201cI think some things happen in the finale that are very surprising, but we\u2019re not trying to shock or upset anyone,\u201d Duffer continued. \u201cI hope by the time people get to the end of the finale that it just feels like there\u2019s something inevitable about what happens, and that it doesn\u2019t feel painful but feels satisfying. We\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

But for all that talk of less pain and more resolution, that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean there won\u2019t be a final sacrifice by anyone on the show\u2026 and that it still won\u2019t be a prominent character. The Duffer brothers are painfully aware that poor Steve Harrington has been getting death flag after death flag spotted by fans as the show\u2019s progressed, making him an oft-dreaded candidate for most likely to die in the series finale\u2014but naturally they\u2019re still staying mum until the credits roll on if he\u2019ll make it out of the show in one piece.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as for Steve\u2019s fate. I don\u2019t know. I can\u2019t say. It would be the next logical step. He keeps getting beaten up more and more,\u201d Matt Duffer joked. \u201cThe only way we could take it further is death.\u201d<\/p>\n

The final episode of\u00a0Stranger Things hits both Netflix and theaters in a limited capacity this Wednesday, December 31.<\/p>\n
