\n\tIt\u2019s been another tough year for the royal family after enduring the endless headlines about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor\u2019s Jeffrey Epstein scandal, but Prince William<\/a> might be heading into 2026 with a controversy of his own<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Prince of Wales is sitting pretty financially after the Duchy of Cornwall released its Integrated Annual Report.<\/a> As the Duke of Cornwall, a title he earned when King Charles III<\/a> ascended to the throne, his 2025 income was $30 million \u2014 the same sum as 2024.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe title comes with quite a substantial land mass<\/a>, which is how his income is earned annually. Per People<\/a>, William oversees a $1 billion estate which \u201cspans 130,000 acres across 23 counties in England and Wales and includes land, farms, houses and other assets to support the heir and their family.\u201d But that\u2019s where the controversy comes into play.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe residents of Poundbury, a town built on the Duchy of Cornwall land, are up in arms about Prince William\u2019s lack of detail. One resident told the Daily Mail,<\/a> \u201cThis place is bloody awful now. This was Charles\u2019s baby, but he doesn\u2019t have time to look after it, and William doesn\u2019t want to know.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tUnder the then-Prince Charles, the area was built up into a community of \u201c2,320 homes, 4,600 residents and 240 businesses.\u201d It was a project he started in the late 1980s, and it\u2019s due to be completed in 2026. However, the residents feel like they\u2019ve been \u201cabandoned\u201d by Charles since it was his pet project, and William is disinterested<\/a> in the town\u2019s upkeep, which has been struggling with drug issues and \u201cred tape\u201d to get problems resolved.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Poundbury resident continued, \u201cIf we could move out tomorrow, we could, but we are getting too old to do that\u2026The leaves are piling up, the grass isn\u2019t cut, and the windows are falling apart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAn US Weekly report noted<\/a> that King Charles is struggling with his eldest son\u2019s \u201cstrong-minded and stubborn\u201d personality, especially as William continues to move in a very different direction from his father\u2019s leadership. The Prince of Wales is interested in modernizing the monarchy, but shows little concern for Charles\u2019 projects \u2014 and he\u2019s been quite vocal about it.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI embrace that, I enjoy \u2026 change,\u201d William said in October on Eugene Levy\u2019s The Reluctant Traveler<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t fear it, that\u2019s the bit that excites me, the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical, but changes that I think need to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWilliam is also going to have to weather the criticism<\/a> and not forget about the people he represents because the residents of Poundbury are not happy with his leadership right now.<\/p>\n
