{"id":214269,"date":"2026-01-01T04:04:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T04:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/214269\/"},"modified":"2026-01-01T04:04:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-01T04:04:06","slug":"un-chief-condemns-israeli-amendments-targeting-unrwa-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/214269\/","title":{"rendered":"UN chief condemns Israeli amendments targeting UNRWA operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The amendments, adopted on 29 December, to the Law to Cease\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrwa.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UNRWA<\/a>\u00a0Operations \u201cseek to further impede UNRWA\u2019s ability to operate and carry out its mandated activities,\u201d said a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/2025-12-31\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a> issued by the Spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Law and its amendments are inconsistent with the status and international legal framework applicable to UNRWA and must be immediately repealed,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Emphasizing that UNRWA is an integral part of the United Nations, the Secretary-General recalled Israel\u2019s obligations under the Charter of the United Nations and the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Convention remains applicable to UNRWA, its property and assets, and to its officials and other personnel.
