He was 101 years old. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Ashmore\u2019s death was announced on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A member of the Navy, Ashmore served in the Pacific during World War II, but he maintained a fascination with broadcasting throughout his decades-long career. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">After a tour with the Air Force, Ashmore joined KSAT 12 News in 1968, which, at the time, had the call letters KONO-TV. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/2011\/11\/16\/ksat-12-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/2011\/11\/16\/ksat-12-history\/\">KONO-TV became KSAT 12 in 1969.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While at KSAT, Ashmore also provided weather reports for KITE radio. In 1970, he left San Antonio for brief broadcasting stints in Indianapolis and San Francisco. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Ashmore returned to San Antonio in 1972 to provide weather reports for KENS 5. Two years later, he was reunited with popular radio personality Ricci Ware, who worked with Ashmore at KITE radio, for a new morning show on KBUC-AM. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In 1980, Ashmore decided to leave television to focus on his radio show. He stayed at KBUC until 1986, when he joined radio station WOAI-AM. He spent the next 16 years at WOAI until he stepped away in 2002. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Ashmore\u2019s love of radio brought him back onto the airwaves in 2004 when he started working for KRNH-FM in Kerrville. In 2012, his broadcasting career came to an end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Ashmore\u2019s signature catchphrase on air was, \u201cHug somebody.
