Saving has never been easy and it’s even tougher in today’s financial climate.<\/p>\n
Even if you do have a little spare, for families in particular there’s always something else the money needs spending on. Whether it’s new shoes, school trips or children’s birthdays, many parents find themselves with little left over.<\/p>\n
But every January we see people sharing money saving ideas to help people save for next Christmas<\/a> and some have more of a success rate than others.<\/p>\n One that families have managed to stick to was shared on our Manchester Family<\/a> page a few years back and it offers a simple way of saving \u00a3780 over 12 months.<\/p>\n We first shared the idea back in 2020 and with the new year just beginning, it’s being shared once again.<\/p>\n Back then we explained how we’d heard of other challenges – saving \u00a32 coins or putting a certain amount away each day – but with the hectic lives most families lead, it’s all too easy for these to go out the window in just the first few weeks of the new year. And who ever has the correct change in their wallet or purse EVERY day?<\/p>\n That’s why this idea will suit some families down to the ground.<\/p>\n Basically you write \u00a310 up to \u00a3120 on a savings tin, put one of those amounts in each month and cross it off the list. By the time you’ve crossed them all off at the end of the year, you’ll have saved a mammoth \u00a3780.<\/p>\n While it means on three months of the year you’ll have to find \u00a3100 or more spare, on other months it will be much lower, so you can pick and choose when you’re able to save the most.<\/p>\n In the post<\/a> on our Manchester Family page, parents editor Emma Gill said: “So I’ve seen lots of ideas for saving money but none of them will really work for me – I never have change in my purse to do the penny challenge for example.<\/p>\n “That’s why I’m giving this a go. Every pay day – or at the end of a month – you put in one of these amounts and then cross it off the list. By the end of the year it’s a whopping \u00a3780!<\/p>\n “It won’t be easy – especially when it comes to the \u00a3120 month – but it’s worth a go. I reckon I’ll start with the \u00a310 in January.”<\/p>\n Dozens of people commented on the post, with many saying they’d give it a go themselves.<\/p>\n Others suggested different ways they manage to save, including saving \u00a32 coins, or using the Tandem app, which rounds up your online spending to the nearest pound and puts it in savings.<\/p>\n Do you have a good savings idea to share?
