Never miss a story \u2014 sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter<\/a> to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer\u200b\u200b, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.\u00a0<\/p>\n In an open letter posted to her Substack<\/a> last year, Brosseau gave insight to her years-long battle and even revealed that she has attempted suicide several times.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t even speak about the real horrors of my situation, because I could be put in the hospital,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n Brosseau said her situation has been so unbearable that she wants to end her life with medical aid in dying (MAID).<\/p>\n In 2021, she applied for Canada\u2019s MAID program, which allows patients with terminal illnesses to end their lives with lethal medication either taken themselves or administered by a physician or nurse. The law, however, does not apply to people with mental illnesses. Play now<\/a>!<\/p>\n However, Brosseau said she doesn\u2019t think she\u2019ll make it that long. \u201cEvery day I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll get through the day,\u201d she told the Times.<\/p>\n One of Brosseau\u2019s psychiatrists, Dr. Mark Fefergrad, said he understands how much she suffers but still thinks she can be successfully treated. \u201cI believe she can get well,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cI don\u2019t think MAID is the best or only choice for her.\u201d<\/p>\n Her other psychiatrist, Dr. Gail Robinson, admitted that Brosseau\u2019s decision is reasonable. \u201cI would love her to change her mind,\u201d she said. \u201cI would hope that she would not have to do this. But I will support her.\u201d<\/p>\n If Brosseau is granted approval for MAID, she hopes to have her family, psychiatrists and dog Olive there to support her.
