(Ryan Stanton | MLive.com)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NU2YQM4W25D7TAANQDIIEMCOEU\">Downtown Home &amp; Garden<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DELO7OMNTVHHBAD6ZLDM6XRU4E\">This 119-year-old establishment in downtown Ann Arbor had its final day of business on Christmas Eve this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QWOAE3YEA5H4LOXCWC2ZBJXHBA\">Residents said goodbye to Downtown Home &amp; Garden, 210 S. Ashley St., which first opened in 1906. Liberty St.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"X7LZARKRXBC4XA5KYZIV23ZPMA\">\u201cThe downtown economy is just not good right now,\u201d Store owner Chera Tramontin previously said in a message. She cited the cost of rent as another reason for the closure. A private equity firm purchased Kilwins in 2023, and the move was \u201cnot what we were into,\u201d Tramontin also said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NCNITFXU6VCVVOKIMBZ5PTZLYY\">Kilwins has nearly 200 locations nationwide, but Don and Katy Kilwin founded it in 1947 in Petoskey. The second owners, Wayne and Lorene Rose, began franchising Kilwins in 1981. Main St., ceased operations on March 30. Liberty St., which opened in 2014, ended operations in July, while Red Lotus, 529 E.
