Following the series finale premiere of Stranger Things<\/a>, many fans are wondering why The Mindflayer and Vecna didn\u2019t use their terrifying minions in the final battle at The Abyss. Even though they\u2019ve been a significant part of the show\u2019s five-season run, the demogorgons were nowhere to be seen during the final episode, as well as the demodogs and demobats, which Vecna was able to fully utilize in Season 4. <\/p>\n

Why weren\u2019t the demogorgons included in the Stranger Things Season 5 finale?<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with TheWrap, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer explained why Vecna didn\u2019t summon his demogorgons, demodogs, and bats against El and her friends during the final fight. They confirmed that Vecna was actually blindsided by their sneak attack, revealing that the villain never imagined that El and the others were able to infiltrate The Abyss. <\/p>\n

\u201cMainly, it\u2019s just that Vecna was not expecting this sneak attack on his home turf. Never in a million years could he even imagine that. They\u2019re there somewhere. We obviously discussed having a demo battle on top of the Mind Flayer battle, but it felt more right to us that why does he needs the demos when the Mind Flayer is this giant thing and can attack them? He doesn\u2019t need his little ant army to attack; he\u2019s going to take care of this himself. It\u2019s a giant, desolate planet,\u201d Matt Duffer said. \u201cIf you recall, you see Henry wandering the planet back in Season 4, and at some point in his journey, he does see a demo far in the distance, but it\u2019s not like they\u2019re hanging out in little huts. There\u2019s not like a giant civilization of demos up there.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the Duffer Brothers admitted that they originally planned to include a demogorgon battle scene in the three-hour version of the finale that they had initially intended to write. However, they decided against it because they felt that they\u2019d done everything they could with these creatures. <\/p>\n

Matt Duffer continued, \u201cWe did at some point have that they were going to come across a giant field of demo eggs in kind of an \u2018Aliens\u2019 thing, but you can\u2019t get all your ideas in there. You remember the eggs?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that\u2019s in the three-hour version of the finale, which was never written,\u201d Ross Duffer chimed in. <\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the other things we talked about was just demo fatigue,\u201d Matt Duffer clarified. \u201cI felt like we did everything we wanted to do with them in \u2018Sorcerer,\u2019 and wanting to keep the focus on Vecna and the Mind Flayer, who\u2019s been absent this season.\u201d<\/p>\n

They were also joined by new cast members, including Terminator vet Linda Hamilton as Dr. Kay, Nell Fisher as Holly Wheeler, Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, and Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers.<\/p>\n
