She said they make a habit of visiting \u201cmaybe once a month\u201d since they live \u201ca few hours away from our hometown.\u201d However, she does not like visiting her husband\u2019s house for a very specific reason.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am allergic to dogs and cats and have asthma,\u201d she said. \u201cMy in-laws have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and his dad smokes in the house. Every time we visit, I get sick due to all the allergens in the air, even if I take allergy medicine and use my inhaler.\u201d<\/p>\n

She noted that before she and her husband got married she could \u201cjust drive home\u201d when she \u201cstarted feeling bad,\u201d but she \u201ccan\u2019t\u201d now as they \u201ctake one car\u201d to visit both their families. She also noted that while his parents have taken steps to try to limit the number of allergens in the home, it still doesn\u2019t help.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy in-laws have tried keeping the animals away from me, not letting the animals in the room we sleep in, cleaning before we come, buying an air purifier, but I know that allergens just don\u2019t go away like that,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur drive back [from their house] to where we live now consists of coughing, snot, and not being able to breathe very well,\u201d she added. \u201cPlus, I\u2019m usually sick a day or two after we get back, and I sometimes miss work due to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
She noted that while she loves her husband and in-laws, she’s \u201cso tired of being sick anytime we go home\u201d and of \u201cfeeling rude\u201d when she has to ask her husband if they could leave early or go back to her parents\u2019 house.<\/p>\n
She said that her asthma and allergies had been an issue in the past and she \u201cdid 3 years of allergy shots and did a breathing treatment for my asthma every 6 months from [the] 6th grade to 12th grade,\u201d but she still has flare-ups. She then asked for help solving the issue because she doesn’t \u201cknow what to do anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the comments, one person suggested that she have her in-laws come visit at her place and “leave the pets home,\u201d while another person suggested that she go with her husband \u201cfor a meal\u201d and then he stays overnight with his parents while she goes to stay with her parents and then she picks him up afterward.<\/p>\n
