(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmbfnews.com\/2025\/09\/10\/really-scary-horry-county-teen-nearly-dies-after-tiktok-benadryl-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wmbfnews.com\/2025\/09\/10\/really-scary-horry-county-teen-nearly-dies-after-tiktok-benadryl-challenge\/\">WMBF<\/a>\/Gray News) &#8211; A mother is sounding the alarm after her daughter almost died after doing a TikTok trend involving Benadryl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The teen\u2019s mother said her daughter started hallucinating last week and her heart rate spiked to nearly 200 beats per minute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The mother rushed her daughter to the hospital after she noticed strange behavior and found Benadryl pills under her pillow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI asked her how many she took, and she told me two, but I didn\u2019t believe her because the bottle was open and there were pills on the bed,\u201d the mother said. \u201cMy husband and I counted them, and we noticed a large amount was missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">At the hospital, doctors asked the teen if this was a suicide attempt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She told them no and that a friend had told her she could get high if she took enough Benadryl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The mother looked through her daughter\u2019s phone and saw the dangerous trend all over her feed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI saw all of the different TikToks she had been looking at,\u201d the mother said. \u201cThey were all kids doing Benadryl, and it just kind of blew my mind. I thought that was a safe medication. Not something a teenager would get into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She said she tried reporting the videos but learned they did not violate the app\u2019s guidelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The mother said she found out her daughter had secretly bought the pills when she went inside a store by herself to get batteries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She said it was a terrifying wake-up call for both of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt was really hard,\u201d the mother said. \u201cIt was really scary. It was one of the hardest things we have been through. It really had an impact on her not being able to remember what happened that night and the next day waking up in the hospital. It scared her a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She said she already looks through her daughter\u2019s phone, but now will be on high alert, and encourages other parents to do the same.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI just don\u2019t want any other parent to go through this,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Parents should stay on the lookout for things like strange behavior, hallucinations, troubling breathing and dry mouth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The dangerous TikTok challenge has been around since at least 2023, when a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/now\/video\/one-teen-dies-after-alleged-benadryl-social-media-challenge-171721285510\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">13-year-old in Ohio died.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WMBF via Gray Local Media, Inc.
