\n\tSPOILER ALERT:\u00a0This post contains light spoilers from Season 2, Episode 8 of \u201cLandman<\/a>,\u201d \u201cHandsome Touched Me,\u201d which premiered Sunday, Jan. 4, on Paramount+.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a series full of scene stealers, Ali Larter<\/a> more than holds her own on \u201cLandman.\u201d Playing Angela, the larger-than-life ex-wife and current fianc\u00e9e of titular landman Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton), she is often on her own sidequests alongside her mini-me daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph). This season, those missions have included spending a ton of money, shopping for mansions, planning themed dinners and, in this latest episode, winning a fortune at the casino while teaching old folks from the retirement home how to win at roulette.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with Variety at the beginning of the season, Larter said she finds joy in playing Angela and details how show co-creator and writer Taylor Sheridan<\/a> pens such a unique character \u2014 even if not all of the series\u2019 fans embrace her<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0incredible that Taylor\u2019s writing for a woman in her late \u201940s\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0still very alive in her body, who still wants to be intimate with her husband,\u201d Larter said. \u201cIs that\u00a0why it\u2019s so confusing to some people?\u00a0I think that Taylor is a provocateur, and\u00a0we\u2019d\u00a0like to put a mirror up to certain things, so I think that\u2019s\u00a0part\u00a0of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLarter also said that she meets many fans who, beyond enjoying Angela, find her to be an aspirational character.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI love playing a woman\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0this alive,\u201d she said. \u201c[Angela and Tommy]\u00a0kind of feel\u00a0like\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0in high school again. They\u2019re\u00a0rekindling this love story, and for me to play a woman who just\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0care about all the judgment of others is so freeing. I have so many women come up to me who always want to have that \u2026 they want to find that little bit of Angela in them, because\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0always asked to live within the societal norms. There\u2019s\u00a0something so delicious about playing a character who does it by her rules, who\u00a0just lives her life as she wants to live it, who loves hard and free. I think\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0exciting at this point in my career and at my age to get to play someone\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0this emotionally complex and bold.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLarter also tracks the frustration of some fans with the early episodes of the first season, when they didn\u2019t know that Tommy\u2019s family would be as integral to the show as his business acumen.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ll explain it to you,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople only saw the first two episodes, and Taylor loves to throw you a hook. Nobody knew when they saw the first two episodes that our show was really about the family. So you see this beautiful arc in the first season. He knows what he\u2019s doing and has a vision and an idea for seasons of this show. I think that when you only see one or two episodes, it\u2019s really hard to understand the kind of work that we put in for the entire season.\u201d<\/p>\n
