I was intrigued by the similarity between two paintings recently featured in the Guardian: the Ecce Homo as restored by Cecilia Gim\u00e9nez (Cecilia Gim\u00e9nez, famed for \u2018Monkey Christ\u2019 mural mishap, dies at 94, 30 December<\/a>) and T\u00eate de Femme by Pablo Picasso (\u20ac1m Picasso portrait up for grabs for \u20ac100 in charity raffle, 31 December<\/a>). Perhaps Cecilia\u2019s work is in need of a reappraisal.

On a wall by the church in Isle Abbotts, Somerset, are incised the words \u201cOn this Spot on 12\u00a0June\u00a01761 Nothing Happened\u201d. So, nothing to do with the change from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar (Letters, 1 January<\/a>). Unless rural Somerset was still catching up nine years on?

A house in the village of Long Itchington, Warwickshire, bears a very realistic English Heritage plaque<\/a> recording that \u201cJacob von Hogflume, 1864-1909, inventor of time travel, lived\u00a0here in 2169\u201d.

\u201cSix-seven\u201d is not that new (Letters, 4 December<\/a>). It\u2019s a revival of an old saying \u2013 \u201cat sixes and sevens\u201d \u2013 signifying general chaos and disorder, which was quoted in Gilbert and Sullivan\u2019s HMS\u00a0Pinafore.
