On January 4, 2026, GoGoCart removed<\/a> the BarcelonaZ project from its website after local groups<\/a> decried the initiative as flagrantly antisemitic and dangerous \u2013 especially<\/a> in light of the December 14, 2025 Bondi Beach massacre in Australia.<\/p>\n Promoters of BarcelonaZ<\/p>\n On October 6, 2025, Enginyeria Sense Fronteres \u2013 Catalunya<\/a> (Engineers without Borders \u2013 Catalonia; ESF-C) and Universitats amb Palestina<\/a> (Universities with Palestine; UAP) co-published<\/a> on Instagram a promotional post about the BarcelonaZ project, which they describe as \u201ca collective and independent research project made up of students, professors and journalists who avoid individual recognition\u201d \u2013 claiming that it is \u201ca project that we have just learned about.\u201d In the caption of the post, the organizations encourage followers to \u201cCollaborate and spread the word!\u201d<\/p>\n Engineers without Borders \u2013 Catalonia<\/p>\n European Union-funded: ESF-C states<\/a> that the NGO \u201cis part of the Youth Internship Program subsidized by the Public Employment Service of Catalonia and with 40% co-financing from the European Social Fund Plus\u201d (pictured below).<\/p>\n The European Social Fund Plus describes itself<\/a> as \u201cthe European Union (EU)\u2019s main instrument for investing in people\u201d through \u201ccontribution[s] to the EU\u2019s employment, social, education and skills policies.\u201d Screenshot from the ESF-C website<\/a><\/p>\n ESF-C claims<\/a> that its mission is \u201cTo Cooperate (sic) in the achievement of a fair international society, which does not exclude anyone\u201d (emphasis added). Additionally, the NGO states that its \u201cvalues\u201d include \u201cNon-denominationalism and non-partisanship\u201d as well as \u201cRespect and Dialogue.\u201d In a post on the same subject, ESF-C wrote, \u201cThe attacks that began on October 7 have involved water and electricity cuts, the boycott of essential water infrastructure, and the contamination of Palestinian water sources. The violation of these basic rights is a key weapon used by the State of Israel to perpetuate genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n ESF-C \u201ccollaborates with<\/a>,\u201d inter alia, Action Aid<\/a>.<\/p>\n Universities with Palestine (UAP)<\/p>\n UAP is a network<\/a> of Catalan faculty- and student-led anti-Israel organizations.
\nAccording to the EU Financial Transparency System (FTS), ESF-C was a partner on two EU grants<\/a> totalling \u20ac2.4 million in 2019-2023. \nESF-C\u2019s 2024 annual report states<\/a> that \u201cWe cannot ignore the Palestinian resistance, a clear expression of the struggle for freedom of all oppressed peoples\u201d (emphasis added).
\nIn April 2025, ESF-C and UAP co-authored<\/a> a dossier titled \u201cPalestine, the other side of genocide: do you know that Israel uses water and energy as a weapon of war against Palestine?<\/a>\u201d, which the organizations described as \u201cA resource designed to inform, raise awareness and mobilize the educational and student community in Catalonia\u201d and distributed on Catalan campuses<\/a>.<\/p>\n
\nOn November 27, 2025, UAP promoted<\/a> a \u201cPeople\u2019s Court in the case against complicity with the Palestinian genocide in the Spanish State,\u201d hosted by Complutense University of Madrid. The event was attended<\/a> by various terror-tied NGOs and individuals, including Samidoun<\/a>, Masar Badil<\/a>, Al-Haq<\/a>, and Raji Sourani<\/a>.<\/p>\n
