The deal opens Universal\u2019s enormous catalog to the world\u2019s most valuable company: Nvidia will use its AI infrastructure to develop new ways to make, discover, and engage with music, all while protecting artists and rightsholders, a press release claims.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the partnership is Nvidia\u2019s large audio-language model Music Flamingo, designed to develop a \u201chuman-like understanding of songs\u201d that accounts for \u201charmony, structure, timbre, lyrics, and cultural context,\u201d Nvidia\u2019s <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/research.nvidia.com\/labs\/adlr\/MF\/\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/research.nvidia.com\/labs\/adlr\/MF\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/research.nvidia.com\/labs\/adlr\/MF\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">research<\/a> overview notes. The model\u2019s way of parsing \u201cemotional narrative and cultural resonance\u201d will enrich the experience of music discovery, the press release adds (though websites staffed by humans, with emotions and cultures of our own, can help with that too). The prospect of song generation is given less attention, but UMG and Nvidia promise to establish an \u201cartist incubator\u201d where real artists, songwriters, and producers will co-design and test AI-powered tools. According to the press release, the incubator will offer \u201ca direct antidote to generic, \u2018AI slop\u2019 outputs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lucian Grainge, UMG\u2019s chair and CEO, said in a statement that Nvidia would protect and respect copyright and human creativity.
