In a perfect world, your personal life wouldn\u2019t seep into your job, but also, a perfect world seems boring. Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a> saw how her divorce<\/a> from Chris Martin<\/a> affected her professional life<\/a> with more than just a prenup. She told Amy Poehler on the Good Hang podcast<\/a> that, after the bad PR from being \u201cconscious uncoupled<\/a>,\u201d she was soon fired from a movie role. \u201cI was supposed to do a movie at one point and it was like right after the conscious uncoupling thing with Chris, and there was a lot of harsh stuff in the press,\u201d she explained. \u201cI think the distributor was like, this might be too hot to touch. So that was great because I was getting a divorce and then I got fired off. So it was so awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n Ten years after her divorce from Martin, she understands why people felt so hurt or defensive by her use of the phrase \u201cconscious uncoupling\u201d when describing a divorce. \u201cSay you had had a really nasty divorce, or your parents had had a really nasty divorce. And then you hear this idea that like, it doesn\u2019t have to be done this way,\u201d she told Poehler. \u201cI think the implicit learning is like, \u2018Oh, fuck. Like, they\u2019re saying I did something wrong.\u2019 That makes sense to me, like, \u2018Oh no, is the inference that I mess someone up.\u2019 Like, that\u2019s not a nice thing to contemplate.
