The other said the chances of intervention were high because the Manus case could set an uncomfortable precedent for other Chinese AI companies to follow by moving their operations abroad.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Meta and Manus did not immediately respond to requests for comment. China\u2019s commerce ministry did not respond to a faxed inquiry.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Meta\u2019s reported US$2.5 billion price tag has buoyed some Chinese investors and entrepreneurs by offering a rare, high-profile cash exit.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">But the deal has also raised eyebrows in Beijing, where academics and lawyers have debated whether Manus\u2019 relocation from China to Singapore last summer \u2013 widely seen as a step to facilitate the transaction \u2013 may have run afoul of China\u2019s technology export control regime.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Manus rose to fame in March last year after releasing what it described as the world\u2019s first general AI agent.
