The Hadassah Medical Organization has been named Israel\u2019s top hospital for scientific output, according to Nature Index, which also places Hadassah among the top 200 hospitals worldwide.<\/p>\n
The Nature Index tracks primary research published in 145 high\u2011impact natural and health science journals selected by an independent panel of researchers. For the 2024\u20132025 period, Hadassah outpaced all other Israeli hospitals in scientific publications across a range of fields, including clinical sciences (patient\u2011centered medicine), oncology and carcinogenesis, microbiology, genetics, cardiovascular medicine and hematology.<\/p>\n
Eyal Mishani, PhD, head of Hadassah\u2019s Research and Development Division, explained how the ranking is determined. \u201cNature ranked the hospitals based on impact factors such as what they\u2019ve published, the number of times an article was cited and how many online visits each received \u2014 all academic parameters that facilitate an assessment of a hospital\u2019s scientific work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mishani, who has led the organization\u2019s research efforts for more than 20 years, credited the institution\u2019s success to its researchers, who \u201cfocus on the \u2018hottest\u2019 areas of research in every sphere of medicine you can think of.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yoram Weiss, MD, chief executive of the Hadassah Medical Organization, emphasized the role of the hospital\u2019s parent body, Hadassah, The Women\u2019s Zionist Organization of America, and its donors. \u201cWithout the support of Hadassah and forward\u2011thinking philanthropists who understand the importance of the work we\u2019re doing, we wouldn\u2019t have been able to achieve what we have or to establish research centers that are changing the face of medicine,\u201d Weiss said.<\/p>\n
He cited several flagship research centers as examples of this success, including the Wohl Institute for Translational Medicine, the Hadassah Organoid Center and the Hadassah Cancer Research Institute.<\/p>\n
The Nature Index remains one of the scientific community\u2019s most respected metrics for research output, focusing on publication volume and impact rather than clinical performance or teaching quality.
