\u2018I\u2019m noticing deeper, earth-rooted colors coming back in a more nuanced way, paired with materials that show their age honestly,\u2019 Nate Berkus<\/a> says. \u2018Like hand-finished woods, plaster, stone with irregularity\u2026.things that tell a story. That\u2019s exciting to me. We\u2019re craving meaning again. Provenance matters. Patina matters. Objects with stories matter.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Ask yourself how you want a room to feel when someone enters,\u2019 he advises. From there, source \u2018things made by hand, old things that have patina and tell a story.\u2019<\/p>\n

That process can start small and ideally, close to home \u2013 at an antiques mall, a vintage<\/a> shop, a thrift store. Simply, Nate says, \u2018see where your eye lands and what sparks interest.\u2019<\/p>\n

Of course, if something is coming back in, something else is on its way out. And topping Nate\u2019s 2026 no-go list of dated trends<\/a> is the opposite of all this: anything overly contrived.<\/p>\n

\u2018Rooms that aren\u2019t personal, that are designed to photograph well but don\u2019t reflect the people who live there,\u2019 are what he\u2019s avoiding \u2013 always, to be fair, but especially now.<\/p>\n

\u2018I like that Pantone selected a neutral for a change, and a white at that, it\u2019s interesting,\u2019 Nate Berkus says, adding, \u2018there are a lot of nuances with white, and they can really change a room depending on how they layer and work with the light.\u2019<\/p>\n

His take echoes the growing consensus that this non-color-color is ultimately about clearing space, swiping the TikTok scribble-scrabble slates clean. \u2018At the end of the day, there\u2019s a lot of noise out there,\u2019 he says.
