On January 1, Ashley \u2014 who shares two daughters with her husband, Christopher French<\/a> \u2014 published a personal essay for The Cut<\/a>, in which she wrote about \u201cbreaking up with\u201d her \u201ctoxic\u201d group of mom friends in LA.\"Two<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember being left out of a couple of group hangs, and I knew about them because Instagram made sure it fed me every single photo and Instagram Story,\u201d she wrote. \u201cAnother time, at one of the mom\u2019s dinner parties, I realized where I sat with her \u2014 which was at the end of the table, far from the rest of the women. I was starting to feel frozen out of the group, noticing every way that they seemed to exclude me.\u201dNotably, Ashley did not name any of the moms she was referring to, but it didn\u2019t take long for fans to piece together that Ashley used to be part of the same mom group<\/a> as other celebrities like Mandy Moore<\/a>, Hilary Duff<\/a>, and Meghan Trainor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A representative for Ashley publicly denied the widespread speculation that her essay was about that particular group of women; however, Hilary\u2019s husband, Matthew Koma, went and majorly stirred the pot this week by posting a parody of the article on social media, branding Ashley \u201cself-obsessed<\/a>\u201d and \u201ctone-deaf.\u201d\"Two<\/p>\n

Matthew\u2019s parody of the essay headline read: \u201cWhen You’re The Most Self-Obsessed Tone Deaf Person On Earth, Other Moms Tend To Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers,\u201d while an additional sub-headline said: \u201cA Mom Group Tell All Through A Father’s Eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since then, the internet has been abuzz with theories about what may have happened here. And now, a source close to the group has spoken to People<\/a> about the cause of the falling out, claiming that it stemmed from \u201ca misalignment of values that Ashley decided to make public.\u201d\"A<\/p>\n

“Friends naturally drift apart,” they added. “It didn\u2019t warrant a dramatic breakup text.”\"GroupA second source shared more insight into Ashley\u2019s reasoning for sharing the essay, suggesting that she \u201cput this out there\u201d because she wants people to know that \u201ctoxic behavior is not acceptable.\u201d \u201cThis is blowing up in the craziest way,\u201d they acknowledged.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, it appears that Ashley no longer follows Hilary or Mandy on Instagram. She does, however, still follow Meghan. We\u2019ve reached out to Ashley\u2019s representative about all this, and we\u2019ll be sure to let you know if we hear anything in response.<\/p>\n
