Then I almost bumped into a four-legged doglike robot behind me.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk7b7o9g00093b6p90imcfa9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            They\u2019re just a couple of the many robots I encountered this week designed for a range of purposes, from playing chess to performing spinal surgery. These are common occurrences on the Las Vegas Convention Center\u2019s show floor during CES, which wrapped on Friday. Every January, companies from around the world gather to flaunt new technologies, products and services.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u00083b6p8ajzxwdi@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The show is just as much spectacle as it is substance; many of the most eye-catching wares either haven\u2019t come to fruition (like flying cars) or are wildly expensive and impractical (think TVs that cost tens of thousands of dollars). But CES provides a glimpse into the bets being made by industry giants like Nvidia, Intel, Amazon and Samsung.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u00093b6pwuxgwqtc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            AI once again dominated the conference. Companies showed off everything from humanoid robots they claim will staff factories to refrigerators you can open with your voice to the next-generation chips that will power it all. CES, in some ways, turned the Strip into a bubble of its own, shielded from AI skepticism.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000a3b6p57lu1tzj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN asked a handful of tech executives at CES about an AI bubble and how it might impact their businesses. Some said their businesses aren\u2019t relevant to the bubble concerns, while others expressed optimism about AI\u2019s potential and said they are focused on building products that show it.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000b3b6pk1c1el41@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe\u2019re in the earliest stage of what\u2019s possible. So when I hear we\u2019re in a bubble, I\u2019m like\u2026 This isn\u2019t a fad,\u201d said Panos Panay, Amazon\u2019s devices and services chief. \u201cIt\u2019s not going to pass.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000c3b6p0rtkmmcf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Tech companies poured more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/market-intelligence\/en\/news-insights\/articles\/2025\/12\/record-breaking-data-center-investments-m-a-in-2025-amid-ai-demand-96002955\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$61 billion<\/a> into data center investments in 2025, according to S&amp;P Global, fueling concerns that investments may be far outpacing demand.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000d3b6p5sr4j1tu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            And investments are only expected to grow, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldmansachs.com\/insights\/articles\/why-ai-companies-may-invest-more-than-500-billion-in-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Goldman Sachs<\/a> reporting that AI companies are estimated to invest more than $500 billion in capital expenditures this year. Julien Garran, researcher and partner for research firm MacroStrategy Partnership, said in a report last year that the AI bubble is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/18\/business\/ai-bubble-analyst-nightcap\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">17 times bigger<\/a> than the dot com bubble.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000e3b6pvbvjra1b@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Most of the concerns around an AI bubble have centered on investments in data centers built for AI tasks that are too power-hungry for devices like laptops and smartphones to handle alone. Nvidia, the poster child of the AI boom and the company at the center of the bubble debate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/05\/tech\/vera-rubin-nvidia-ai-ces\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced at CES<\/a> that the next version of its computing platform that powers those data centers is arriving in the second half of this year.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/gettyimages-2254141219.jpg\" alt=\"The Samsung AI Beauty Mirror during CES on January 4, 2026.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1333\" width=\"2000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000f3b6pa0p3j2dr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            When asked about the AI bubble, executives from chipmakers Intel and Qualcomm pointed to their respective companies\u2019 efforts to improve how computers process AI tasks locally rather than in the cloud.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000g3b6px2fsk3l4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Qualcomm, which makes chips for smartphones and other products, announced last year that it\u2019s expanding into data centers. But that represents a very small part of its business.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000h3b6p01rsskqx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cAs far as we\u2019re concerned, where we operate is not where the bubble conversation exists,\u201d Akash Palkhiwala, Qualcomm\u2019s chief financial officer and chief operating officer, told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000i3b6pe6io4qa3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Intel is focused on products that are important to its consumers, like chips that boost laptop performance, rather than making a big bet \u201cthat takes a lot of investment that may or may not make it,\u201d said its client computing group head, Jim Johnson.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000j3b6pt0eh83h0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CK Kim, executive vice president and head of Samsung\u2019s digital appliances business, said in an interview through an interpreter that it\u2019s not for him to say whether the industry is in an AI bubble. He added that the company is more focused on whether AI is bringing value to consumers.\n    <\/p>\n<p>        AI and the hunt for the next big thing<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000k3b6pba5wyh10@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            What that \u201cvalue\u201d looks like is exactly what the thousands of exhibitors at CES tried to demonstrate this week. Humanoid robots were a big part of that equation for companies like Nvidia, Intel, Hyundai and Qualcomm, all of which announced new tech to power human-shaped robots.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000l3b6ppu2828fg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Boston Dynamics and Hyundai debuted Atlas, a humanoid robot developed in partnership with Google\u2019s DeepMind AI division designed for industrial work like order fulfillment. It\u2019ll be deployed to Google DeepMind and Hyundai\u2019s Robotics Metaplant Applications center in the coming months, and additional customers will adopt it in early 2027.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmk76e50u000m3b6pkqysbwyc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWith one investment, we can explore any application in the world, from industrial use cases to retail use cases to home use cases,\u201d Aya Durbin, who leads Boston Dynamics\u2019 humanoid application product strategy, said in an interview at Hyundai\u2019s booth when asked what\u2019s driving the interest in humanoid robots. At CES, a wave of companies introduced discrete listening devices that can record conversations or voice notes.
