Newman-Achee Takes Bronze In All-Around On National Stage<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\tWEST VALLEY, UTAH \u2013 California women’s gymnastics took second place at the evening session of the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad Saturday night at the Maverik Center in West Valley, Utah. The Golden Bears notched a 196.350 team score at the nationally televised podium meet, improving 0.350 from their runner-up finish at the Best of the West Quad one week prior.

\nThe ACC’s Gymnast of the Week, Annalise Newman-Achee<\/a>, was awarded bronze in the all-around, which was her second-straight podium finish.<\/p>\n

The Bears got off to a hot start on uneven bars, with Mya Wiley<\/a> setting a new personal-best 9.875 and Newman-Achee matching Wiley’s score right after her. Casey Brown<\/a> performed a 9.925 from the fifth slot – good for a share of second place in the event. ACC Newcomer of the Week Tonya Paulsson<\/a> improved her bars score from her debut last week to a 9.950 tonight, earning her the event title at the meet. Cal posted its highest team event score of the season with a 49.425 to lead the meet at the end of the first rotation.

\nCal carried its momentum into the second rotation, this time seeing Miki Aderinto<\/a> match her career high on balance beam with a 9.825. Abbey Scanlon<\/a> and Sarah Lee<\/a> each received a 9.800 to lift the Bears to a 48.850 team score, good enough to hold onto the first place spot at the end of the rotation.

\nCJ Keuneke<\/a> performed a 9.825 floor exercise routine from the second spot in the Bears’ lineup. The back end of the lineup delivered, with Paulsson scoring a personal-best and a share of\u00a0the event win with a 9.875 and anchor Kyen Mayhew<\/a> notching a 9.850, good for a share of bronze in the event. The team compiled a 49.075 score.

\nWiley put up a 9.800 on vault before Jayden Silvers<\/a> was awarded a 9.825 for her routine. Mayhew scored the highest in the rotation from the anchor spot with a 9.850, good for a share of second-place on the event. She lifted the Bears to a 49.000 on the event and a second place team finish.

\nMichigan took first place with a 197.225 with Michigan State getting third with a 196.225 and Kentucky coming in last with a 193.850.

\nCal will open conference competition next week as the Bears travel to Pittsburgh for a dual meet on Sunday, January 18.
