{"id":232337,"date":"2026-01-11T09:05:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T09:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/232337\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T09:05:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T09:05:07","slug":"ethan-hawke-alison-brie-beaten-for-acting-award-by-the-good-boy-dog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/232337\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethan Hawke, Alison Brie beaten for acting award by the Good Boy dog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night marked the 9th annual Astra Film Awards, as the Hollywood Creative Alliance got together to hand out statues to any number of 2025\u2019s biggest movie hits\u2014including a notable, possibly prescient <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldderby.com\/film\/2026\/astra-awards-2026-winners-list\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">11-win sweep<\/a> for Ryan Coogler\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/sinners-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sinners<\/a>. Oh, and also, Ethan Hawke, Alison Brie, and several other actual human beings, with hand and faces and everything, got beaten in an acting category by a dog.<\/p>\n<p>Now, to be fair, Indy\u2014the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever who starred in Ben Leonberg\u2019s 2025 horror film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/overlook-film-festival-2025-reviews-clown-in-a-cornfield-good-boy-chain-reactions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Good Boy<\/a>, in addition to being Leonberg\u2019s own personal dog\u2014gave an extremely affecting performance in the film, single-pawedly selling much of the horror of watching a creature who cannot understand the situation it\u2019s stuck in attempt to protect the human it desperately loves. Still, you have to look at Hawke, Brie, Alfie Williams, Sally Hawkins, and Sophie Thatcher\u2014the pooch\u2019s competition in the Astra\u2019s \u201cBest Performance In A Horror Or Thriller\u201d category\u2014and imagine, somewhere in the back of their brains, a little voice whispering: \u201cDid I just lose an acting contest to a fucking dog?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\ufeff<\/p>\n<p>Leonberg sent a video to the awards show accepting the award on Indy\u2019s behalf, on account of Indy being a dog, who historically have a pretty poor grasp on the Hollywood awards show calendar.
