Fans are celebrating the life of Bob Weir by sharing footage from his final performance with Dead & Company<\/a>.<\/p>\n

News emerged last night (January 10) that the legendary rhythm guitarist and founding member of the Grateful Dead <\/a>had died after succumbing to \u201cunderlying lung issues\u201d following a battle with cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could,\u201d a statement on Weir\u2019s official social media accounts read, triggering an outpouring of tributes from across the music world.<\/p>\n

It went on to say the beloved musician was diagnosed with cancer in July 2025, and that Weir \u201cbegan treatment only weeks before returning to his hometown stage for a three-night celebration of 60 years of music at Golden Gate Park\u201d. Those Dead & Company shows in August, in celebration of the Dead\u2019s 60th anniversary, were Weir\u2019s final public performances.<\/p>\n

The shows have taken on a new poignancy in the wake of his passing, with Deadheads across the world revisiting the setlist and sharing clips of the career-spanning gig.<\/p>\n

On August 3, 2025, they kicked off with a cover of Sam Cooke\u2019s \u2018Good Times\u2019, followed by \u2018China Cat Sunflower\u2019 and \u2018I Know You Rider\u2019. A rendition of \u2018They Love Each Other\u2019 from Jerry Garcia\u2019s 1976 solo album \u2018Reflections\u2019 followed, with a \u2018Shakedown Street\u2019 jam featuring shades of Michael Jackson\u2019s \u2018Wanna Be Startin\u2019 Somethin\u2019 and the Commodores\u2019 \u2018Brick House\u2019 coming after.<\/p>\n

They wrapped the first set with a high-energy performance of Garcia\u2019s \u2018Deal\u2019, and returned alongside Phish frontman Trey Anastasio, who lent a hand on \u2018Scarlet Begonias\u2019 and \u2018Fire on the Mountain\u2019. Grahame Lesh, the son of late Grateful Dead bassist, Phil, later joined the group on stage to cover Robbie Robertson\u2019s \u2018Broken Arrow\u2019 before playing with the band on \u2018Cumberland Blues\u2019.<\/p>\n

Following a series of psychedelic jams on \u2018Drums\u2019 and \u2018Space\u2019, John Mayer<\/a> led the band through \u2018Sugaree\u2019 and \u2018Sugar Magnolia\u2019. It was followed by the final track of the night in \u2018Touch of Grey\u2019. The performance of the 1987 Grateful Dead classic \u2013 and their only Top 10 hit \u2013 marked the last of Weir\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

Grieving fans have said it\u2019s not only poignant because it was the last song of the evening, but because the lyrics nod directly to the notion of life being a fine balance of happiness and pain, as summed up in the line: \u201cEvery silver lining\u2019s got a touch of grey\u201d.<\/p>\n

After the final track played out, and in a moment several fans have also looked back on in the wake of Weir\u2019s death, he later joins his bandmates centre stage as thousands of their fans bid them goodbye, a scene now cemented in psychedelic rock history.<\/p>\n
