Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were childhood friends in Cambridge, Massachusetts, eventually going on to make the 1997 hit Good Will Hunting.<\/p>\n

When watching the movie, Matt\u2019s wife Luciana later told him that she originally thought Affleck “was the cute one,” not him.<\/p>\n

The two men\u2014who star together in the new film The Rip\u2014opened up about their friendship on the January 12 episode of The Howard Stern Show.<\/p>\n

Matt Damon<\/a> met and fell in love with future wife Luciana in 2003\u2014six years after Matt and his childhood friend Ben Affleck<\/a> hit the big time with their 1997 film Good Will Hunting. As Matt shared in a new interview, after his future wife saw the movie in theaters, she thought Affleck \u201cwas the cute one\u201d of the two\u2014and not him.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the January 12 episode of The Howard Stern Show<\/a> alongside Affleck, Matt\u2014after being asked by Stern if Affleck was there the night he met Luciana\u2014said, \u201cAfter we\u2019d been together for a little while, probably a few months, she admitted that\u2014I think I met her best friend from high school and it came out that the two of them went and saw Good Will Hunting together and her best friend thought I was the cute one, and she thought Ben was the cute one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018You got the wrong one?\u2019\u201d Matt said<\/a>. \u201cShe told me that 23 years ago.\u201d Of Luciana\u2014who Matt married in 2005 and shares four daughters with and who is also a producer on Matt and Affleck\u2019s new movie The Rip\u2014Affleck added, \u201cShe\u2019s a great producer and a really good friend and yeah, I never got that vibe from her. So I think something I did in real life rubbed it off.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFinally she met him and all that went away,\u201d Matt joked of Luciana\u2019s crush.<\/p>\n

Of the night they met, Matt said of his wife, \u201cI couldn\u2019t remember who I was with, \u2018cause all I remembered was her.\u201d To this, Affleck playfully added, \u201cHe knows why he\u2019s a good husband because he\u2019s like, \u2018All I can see was her,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018But also, you were hammered, and it’s a little vague.\u2019 But he\u2019s smart enough not to say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Getting serious, Affleck continued, \u201cIt\u2019s a really gorgeous marriage and friendship and two people who, when they\u2019re apart and independent of one another, are one another\u2019s partner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of meeting Matt nearly 23 years ago, Luciana previously told Vogue Australia<\/a>, \u201cWhen you meet somebody that you have a connection with, that\u2019s just the person that you have a connection with. All the other stuff\u2014the movie star part\u2014wasn\u2019t really a factor. It was just Matt. To me, he\u2019s just Matt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of their long friendship\u2014which has included seeing Affleck through addiction and two divorces, from Jennifer Garner<\/a> in 2018 and Jennifer Lopez<\/a> in 2025\u2014Matt told Stern<\/a>, \u201cOur relationship isn\u2019t affected by what people are saying. I was there for all of it.\u201d To this, Affleck replied, \u201cThat means a lot to me. That\u2019s sort of what a real friend is.\u201d<\/p>\n
