What they filmed is incredible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scientists from Norway and the Ukraine used GPS trackers and mini cameras to penguins\u2019 backs to spy on the birds\u2019 behaviour \u2013 and what they saw was remarkable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/uac.gov.ua\/en\/about-en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Antarctic Scientific Centre of Ukraine<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/npolar.no\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Norwegian Polar Institute<\/a>\u00a0monitored where the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/birds\/penguin-facts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">penguins<\/a> went and how deep they were diving using GPS trackers that were attached for around three weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To back this up, they also attached mini cameras for one day to see what the animal was doing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Join a penguin on its dizzying ride through the ocean. Credit: National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine, Norwegian Polar Institute<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sensors do not harm the penguins and are installed only during the breeding period,\u201d says a spokesperson for the\u00a0National Antarctic Scientific Centre of Ukraine. \u201cAt this time, the birds reliably return to their nests, allowing the devices to be safely removed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The astonishing footage shows the penguins darting through the water at incredible speed while its raft-mates flap their wings as they swim ahead. \u201cWhat you see is the penguins\u2019 actual underwater swimming speed,\u201d they add.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The video also showed the penguins gobbling up\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/insects-invertebrates\/facts-about-krill\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">krill<\/a>: a tiny crustacean that form the base of the food chain in Antarctica.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the video, you can clearly see penguins hunting krill, forming dense aggregations. In some moments, the krill literally &#8216;rolls up&#8217; into bands, and the penguins dive straight into these swarms,\u201d they say.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At certain points in the footage, bubbles burst from the penguins\u2019 feathers.
